It may have seemed like a simple call to action, but the Breton Ability Centre’s Valentine’s Campaign was a very strategic effort. Breton Ability Centre (BAC) is a special place in Cape Breton that supports more than 300 residents with intellectual disabilities. One of the priorities for BAC is to decrease the stigma associated with intellectual disabilities by building meaningful connections for their residents within our greater community. For Valentine’s Day, we asked community members to help spread love by sending Valentine’s Cards to their residents. The end result with thousands of cards received, including a letter from Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, coverage through all major media outlets, tens of thousands of people reached through social media and, most importantly, many happy residents.
